Slow Design

This is a bike generator system that was created by my high school physics teacher  Shane Crone. It basically is a bike that is hooked to a pedal-a-watt system to generate electricity. It can be used to  power classroom projectors and what not.
Although he is not really a new media artist, I believe that this project fits at least two of the design parameters. It fits the parameter of the first principle, reveal. This project teaches students about taking more green friendly steps to help improve the environment. The second principal that this is related to is principal five, participate. People need to be able to participate with this project in order for it to be successful in saving energy.

Fire Farm is a project that creates new ways to make light. They craft beautiful lights for interior design purposes. Although this is a business, they give instructions and information to people on how to make their own light fixtures.
This project meets several of the principal requirements. One of the principals is principal three, reflect. It causes the viewers to reflect on how the environment of the room changes with the presence of these light fixtures. The other principal is number four, engage. As previously stated, they give the viewers projects, instructions, and information on how to create their own light fixtures.
