in that it requires many active participants to evolve into something that
could change the world. Edible Estates is the idea that in our front yards’
participants plant gardens instead of just grass. The idea is that we connect
more with our environments. This project also addresses communities, global
food production and will help feed people. The more participants the better the
evolutionary this project will become.
interesting, Saskia Van Drimmelen takes old garments that maybe have been
ripped or destroyed and give them new life using old techniques such as needle
point to repair them, but in a way that breathes a new aesthetic quality to
them. Just like the Japanese repaired old ceramic with golden paint. Accentuating
the broken parts but perhaps making the ceramic even more beautiful. Golden
Joinery does the same thing but with clothes. This process of repairing old
clothes with golden textile uses the slow design principals such as reveal and reflect.
Too often I find myself just mindlessly scrolling through apps on my phone. Literally sometimes for more than 45 minutes. It is such a time sucker. A good slow design app would be one that will send you notifications once you reach a limit of time you set on your own. It could send you notifications like, “why don’t you find a good book to read instead”, or “why not make some artwork now?” I think this type of app would for sure induce a type of refection of how much time is actually spent using social media, as well as reveal life events we miss when we sit on our phones too long.
I use meditation as a way to relax, just like many other people in the world. I love to just turn my head off to any outside thoughts. I still used a guided meditation and rely on my phone/ youtube to get onto those guided meditations. And I sometimes find myself getting distracted from my meditations because Ill get a notification on my phone and or computer. It would be cool to have a gadget maybe in the form of a Buddha with the ability to plug in some headphones and listen to guided meditations of your choice. This way I can turn off my other gadgets and just focus on my meditations.I think this object would embrace the slow design principals by “revealing” a focus on meditation which is often missed in our busy lives, as well as an “evolve” because uninterrupted meditation is a rich experience that can emerge from this single object.
