This work is a sculpture made out of aluminum cans. This sculpture I think would fall under the REVEAL category, because it’s made out of materials we all recognize but would overlook when you think of making a sculpture. When you think duck , you don’t immediately think soda can.The duck brings up the images and thoughts of where those cans ends up. We’ve all heard or seen the stories about how the cans or the six pack rings end up by the ocean and some poor animal gets stuck in them. I like this artwork for its simplicity. It seems very simple to do but I wouldn’t have thought about making it out of soda cans.
This artwork is an interactive installation, where the public is encouraged to sit on or move these blocks around. The artist basically wanted the art to be created by the public rather than the artist himself. This artwork would fall under the categories of ENGAGE and PARTICIPATE. I think this is a really cool way to get the audience involved. It’s basically like giant light up legos. Seeing as how the public is responsible for creating something with them, and how there’s so many cubes involved, that leaves so many possibilities. There’s an endless way in which these could be arranged. This leads the public to constantly be apart of the design process, which also depends on the collaboration of many people not any single person.

My first project idea is for some spheres that change color depending on the weather. The hotter it is the redder it would get, and the colder the blue/whiter it would get.It would be set up kind of like a wind chime, and be arranged in different sizes. The sphere would change depending on the heat/cold around it. I guess it would be interactive because if the audience were to touch one it would be warmed up so it’d be gradually changing to red. (hot = red, blue = cold, it’d be a gradient.)
This color changing thing would fall under the categories of EXPAND and PARTICIPATE. This could have a practical use beyond just being decorative as well. These could be set up to record temperatures. They would be made out of recycled materials. The light inside could be from repurposed or recycled LEDs or christmas lights. The cover would be made of plastic, . from bottles of soda for example.

My second idea is for a project centered on pollution. But not your typical water or land pollution. This would focus on recording data on sound pollution. It would be made of old speakers or old radios. Seeing as how people are throwing all this technology away in favor for the newest bluetooth speaker or iPod, it would be great for breathing new life into otherwise outdated technology. These could be placed in any area really, somewhat hidden. They would just listen and record how loud the surrounding environment gets. It would be great for finding out what areas of the city are loudest at what times. To see the peak hours for when there’s the most air pollution.
