One of the slow designers I decided to research was Monika Honikis. In 2005 she used a traditional timepiece and transformed it into a slow design. Two of the slow design principles she used in this project were reveal and participate. She is using the reveal principle by using something as common as an metronome that usually controls a beat to be followed. She is using the participate principle in this project because the metronome would be responding to the rhythm of the person closet to it.
The other slow designer that I decided to research was Simon Heijdens. He is actually a ceramic designer but came up with an interesting project called Broken White. The two slow
design principles he used would be reveal and evolve. He is using the reveal principle because he uses plain white dishes. The other slow design principle he used is evolve because overtime as the people used the dishes they become cracked and a flower pattern would began to appear.
One idea that I had for a slow design project was making a gym shoe into to a lamp. By doing this I would be using the slow design principle reveal and expand. Reveal because I would be taking some as simple as a shoe that you usually put on everyday to walk in. Expand was the other principle because by converting a shoe into a lamp it would be going beyond its basic function.
So it would pretty much be like kind of like your traditional lamp. One difference obviously would be the shoe being on top of the lamp instead of a lamp shade. My idea is that the shoe at the top of the lamp could be interchangeable and you would be able to put different type of shoes on the lamp.
Another idea for the slow design project was to make one of those mini portable fans used in the summer time by people on the beach and make it mobile. Also maybe even by adding speakers so you can listen to music. For this project I would be using the reveal principle because I would be using a regular portable fan. The second principle would be participate because I would be allowing the other to choose how they want to use it.
