The figure shown above are a sculptures of a tree made out of an overabundance of discarded clothing by Alain Guerra and Neraldo de la Paz. The sculptures would fall under the REVEAL category because they are made out of one of our very important daily uses… clothing. When it comes to clothing there are many questions that are called to mind such as: “How often will I be wearing this?”, “Do I have something similar?”, or “Is it versatile?” Many people have discarded their clothing because it has gone out of style, they haven’t worn them in a year, are annoyed with the clothing, or the clothing doesn’t fit. Most unwanted clothing end up at a thrift store, yet a vast majority of the clothing goes without purchase. When looking at the representational figure of the tree, one can ignore the fact that clothing is the material being used and only look at it for what it is–– a tree. However, when viewing this piece there are many questions that follow. One may ask, “Where the clothing was taken from?”, “What was the condition of the clothing before it was used to construct the model?”, or “How many pieces of clothing were used to create the figure?” What is working about this piece is that it is fabricated by an overabundance of discarded clothing. Overall, I like this artwork for its simplicity and creativity.

This art work is a public installation that explores three different stages of water. The artist Scott Snibbe encourages an audience to participate in his interactive installation to demonstrate the three perspectives on water. This work would be categorized in ENGAGE and PARTICIPATE. It’s a brilliant idea to get others to interact and communicate with each other. The public audience is in charge of how the water is to be moved with their motions. Thus, the engaging environment that is created with the interactive projection creates an exciting audience which will attract others to participate in the activity as well.
My idea for my project is to create light up gloves that mimic two of Marvel’s Comic’s superheroes. Two of the heroes I intend to represent is Iron-Man and the Scarlet Witch. My idea is to create gloves consisted of white and red LED lights. One pair would outline a circle to mimic Iron Man’s arm wear and it would change to the color red when the hand motion is at a certain position. However, the set of gloves that would imitate the Scarlet Witch’s character would be consisted of only red LED lights. My project would be considered an interactive piece because many people would be able to try the gloves for themselves to feel like superhero.
