During the quarantine, my Nintendo Wii saw a lot of usage. Despite it being more than 10 years old, I keep coming back to it so I can play my, even older, 20 year old n64 games on it. The Wii has a nice design, very minimal and low-profile, which gives it a look that doesn’t age so badly compared to the other consoles. To me, the Wii is the perfect match of old hardware and decent functionality.
When I modelled the interior, I wanted to replace the circuit boards and wires with something that operates with physical objects like pipes in this instance. I ended up going with a sewer environment to not only get that look, but to call back to the Mario aesthetic. Visually, it’s like the game is taking place inside the Wii.
