For My CNC model, I chose to have another one of my own designs be carved into wood. One aspect of a lot of my art is map making, sketching and drawing up maps of made up loacations and cities. A lot of this comes from my interest in circuit board designs and how usually a lot of the components end up resembling a map where electricty flows through all of the parts and make the system work as a whole. This design was turned abstract using minimal shapes such as circles and squares to create a motherboard based map with the CPU (Central Processing Unit), set in the center of everything. All of the traces (the white lines) all flow out of the CPU as it is the brains of the entire operation. It ties all of the components together and tells them what to do, almost like a capital of a city where a lot of neighborhoods all flow torwards it. a lot of the design took bits and pieces from real circuit boards to make the final form.
Here is the original design:

Here is the 3D model before being sent to be carved:

Finally, Here is the final outcome:

It came out really well, it captured the entire circuit board map with details that add a lot more to it. While is it still very rough with a lot of the circular components coming out as a more cone shape pointing up, looking at it from a side angle, they almost look like mountains and mesas being formed on a natural plane. This made wonder that if I were to redo this design using a different material other than wood and use something stronger, That I could probably pour some sort of liquid into the square pockets where those componets would have gone to make bodies of water and create almost a water system for different cities.
