First, I began with 3D mesh model of the mushroom. This is not based on a real species, but I was attempting to find a natural form that would lend itself to the slicing process without getting too complicated as to lose its original form.

Then, I used Slicer for Fusion 360 to radially slice the object. I moved some of the slices around to accentuate the organic flow of the form.

An MDF test was printed. I think it turned out pretty well.

So then, inspired by the rendering of bright orange on Slicer, the mushroom was laser cut in acrylic and assembled!
