The Goodman Guantlet
Project Description – Advertising script:
Are you tired of not being able to customize your body more? Are you scared of getting tattoos? Do you want more style in your life? Well if you answered yes to any of these questions then worry no further. Move over generic arm and welcome the all new 2023 Goodman Guantlet.

Here at Goodman Technologies, we’ve developed something that is bound to bring luxary, fun, and style into your everyday wardrobe. We’ve carefully constructed 83 pieces of both gold/silver acrylic panels and painted MDF panels to create a fashion accessory that not only helps with everyday life but also turns a bland forearm into one that is more aesthetically pleasing.

The Goodman gauntlet comes in two distinct styles that meet the needs of the everyday user or just to show off to the random stranger on the train. Style one features the use of laser cut gold/silver acrylic panels, a more luxurious looking piece for those long business meetings or class lectures. Style two features hand painted MDF panels, a more urban approach and better suited for those long summer days, walk in the parks, or even family gatherings.

One of the main features of the Goodman gauntlet is the use of the attachment pad on top which allows users to attach and detach what we call “Plates” which adds further customization to your gauntlet. These plates offer a variety of useful functions and the main ones that we are currently selling (sold separately) include: the connect 4 plate, the ball maze plate, and the phone plate. We have plans to further develop new plates to expand and really push the limits of what the gauntlet can do.

The Connect 4 plate features the base game of Connect 4, where two players take turns stacking their own respective coins in a 6×7 grid, in order to create a row of 4 to win the game. The coins come in two distinct colors and symbols to easily identify each player, the red coins feature a cross shape whereas the yellow coins feature a pentagon shape. The entire plate along with its pieces were all 3D printed, with the plate using burnt titanium PLA filament and the pieces using bright red and yellow PLA filament. It’s also very easy to attach with the velcro pads on the bottom, it can easily be placed on to be able to play with family or friends this classic childhood game, just remember to set a winning stake to get both fun and a prize.

The ball maze plate features an oversized but quite simple maze. Made out of green frosted acrylic panels, this ball maze is sure to keep one’s mind occupied for quite some time and there’s many ways to play as well, whether that’s getting the ball across from one side to the other, or simply just hitting each pocket where the ball can get trapped. In order to play, simply attach the plate on, place the ball down wherever you like, and move your arm around to get the ball rolling through the maze.

FInally, the phone plate features a 3x6in rectangular space to allow most medium and small sized phones to be placed down and taken with you on your arm to free up the use of your hands. Worried about the phone falling out, not to worry, we thought of that as well. With the use of two adjustable velcro straps, you can secruley strap in your phone and go about your day with an external screen at your disposal. 3D printed in burnt titanium colored filament, this durable phone holder allows you to do much more with having to hold onto your phone, you can have your proprietary map app opened on a long walk, maybe watch a show on your down time, or even write a quick email, it’s all up to the user.

This gauntlet and plates with all of its features can be yours for only 4 easy payments of $93.35! (each plate sold separately at $34.99), so get you Goodman Guantlet now!

Tools and Techniques
The idea for this project comes after I’ve been constructing various tech wearbles in my previous classes, in them I came up with the idea of creating my own fictional company called Goodman Technologies (a small reference to Saul Goodman from the show Breaking Bad). This company is seen on the brink of bankruptcy as they produce a ton of useless inventions at very unaffordable prices, the goodman gauntlet is another one of those items. I’ve always thought about how we accesorize our fingers, wrists, necks, even our knees but a lot of the time our forearms are just empty space and unless it’s decorated with tattoos there’s nothing but armhair there. I thought that would be a good space to make use of gauntlets for everyday wear and why not make it even more unique than to add ridiculous accessories to it.
The first thing to figure out was the shape that it would take and I thought of a pentagon for its sharp dip at one end and a flat side at the other. I modeled it in meshmixer and then proceeded to design the plates using that as well, for ease of use and production. Since this was going to be an outrageous useless invention, I wanted to go all the way and use acrylic and, using the slicer software, sliced my model so that it could be stacked together, creating a heavy and uncomfortable piece to wear. I thought of making it look luxurious and thus chose gold and silver acrylic for one of the guantlets and I also wanted to make one that I could paint in a graffiti-esque style which is why I chose to make one MDF as well. The plates still had to function so I created the “plates” again in meshmixer and 3D printed them in a sparkly burnt titanium color, clashing against the colors of the gauntlet, again to make it ridiculous and try to make it something that you wouldn’t want to buy while also fighting the urge to buy it as well. And finally, to make it even more cheap, I added velcro strips to be able to attach the plates to the guantlet and thus completes the Goodman Guantlet.
